Amanda Capello: The Story Behind Acapello Photography

Hey girl! It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself here 💕.

I’m Amanda, a Phoenix-based photographer, founder of Acapello Photography, and proud advocate for celebrating motherhood, new beginnings, and personal success through timeless, heartfelt photography.

It’s funny how life can take you down unexpected but beautiful paths. If you had told me years ago that I’d be running a full-time photography studio in Phoenix, I’m not sure I would have believed you. Yet here I am, living my dream, one incredible client story at a time.

From High School Math Teacher to Phoenix Photographer

I didn’t set out to be a photographer from the start. My first career was actually in education as a high school math teacher. I loved teaching, but after having my first baby, I made the decision to stay home with my family.

During those early years at home, I picked my camera back up, almost by accident at first. Photography had always been part of my life (my mom was a photographer, too), but I hadn’t touched it in years. What started as a hobby quickly turned into something deeper: a creative passion that helped me find myself again outside of motherhood.

I began taking on a few commissioned jobs here and there, slowly building my skills, portfolio, and confidence. Over time, I realized this wasn’t just a creative outlet… it could be a career.

Eventually, I took the leap and opened my own studio, Acapello Photography. I haven’t looked back since.

Building a Business Rooted in Heart

From day one, I knew that Acapello Photography wasn’t just going to be about taking pretty pictures.

I wanted my work to be a celebration of motherhood, womanhood, new beginnings, and personal triumphs.

My studio experience is built around helping women feel beautiful, confident, and truly seen. I offer a curated client closet, professional hair and makeup, a relaxed studio atmosphere, and the kind of care and guidance that make a session feel empowering rather than intimidating.

Whether it’s maternity portraits, newborn sessions, family milestones, boudoir or branding photos, my mission has always been the same:

Pivoting Through Challenges and Growth

Like many small businesses, the COVID-19 pandemic brought challenges I could have never predicted. But it also taught me resilience.

When my studio had to temporarily close, I pivoted by offering free Zoom coaching for new parents, helping them photograph their own newborns at home. I edited their images, guided them through setups, and tried to provide a sense of connection and hope during such an uncertain time.

Those moments showed me just how strong our community is. Some of those families I helped during lockdown are now some of my most loyal clients today. I’ll always be proud of how Acapello Photography adapted and stayed connected through it all.

What Sets Acapello Photography Apart

There are so many talented Phoenix photographers, and I’m lucky to be part of such a vibrant creative community. But I believe what sets my studio apart is how personal the experience is.

When you book with me, it’s not just about getting great images (although you absolutely will!). It’s about being truly seen, heard, and supported – whether you’re stepping into a maternity session, holding your newborn baby, or launching a new chapter in your career.

I care about every detail – the light, the wardrobe, the posing, the feeling you’ll have when you look back at your photos years from now.

My goal is simple: when you leave my studio, I want you to feel proud of where you are right now. Whether that’s welcoming a new life, chasing a dream, or simply taking a moment to honor yourself.

Celebrating Wins, Big and Small

One thing I’ve learned throughout this journey is that every milestone, big or small, is worth celebrating.

Whether it’s seeing my work featured on magazine covers, earning my APNPI Photographer of the Year title, or simply watching a nervous client’s face light up when they see their photos for the first time… every win matters.

It’s not just about business growth, it’s about personal growth. Every client, every session, every story is a reminder of why I started Acapello Photography in the first place.

I’m proud of the studio I’ve built, the relationships I’ve nurtured, and the community I’ve been lucky enough to serve.

What’s Next for Acapello Photography?

Right now, I’m expanding the studio to offer even more services including personal branding photography for entrepreneurs, creatives, and professionals here in Phoenix.

Just like my maternity and newborn sessions, personal branding photos are about so much more than looking polished. They’re about helping you step confidently into your next chapter: whether that’s launching a new business, growing your career, or simply celebrating who you are right now.

There’s always more to learn, more to create, and more memories to capture, and I can’t wait to see where this next chapter leads.
